Mr. Pomerance will be discussing the science, impacts and policy responses to the climate problem. The scale and risks are enormous and solutions are equally challenging. Mr. Pomerance will describe why climate change will become a dominant issue for governments in the 21st century.
Rafe Pomerance is a founder of the Climate Policy Center and served as President of CA-CP following the merger of the two organizations in 2007. From 1993-1999, he served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Environment and Development. Prior to joining the State Department, he spent eight years as a Senior Associate at the World Resources Institute. From 1975 to 1984, Mr. Pomerance was on the staff of Friends of the Earth, including four years as President. He began his work on climate change in 1978 while at Friends of the Earth. From 1973-1977, Mr. Pomerance was the coordinator of the National Clean Air Coalition. He was a founder and Chairman of the Board of American Rivers, and has also served as Chairman of the Board of the League of Conservation Voters. Mr. Pomerance earned a BA in History from Cornell University.
